When I think of Edgar A. Poe sculptures, it is always this one which, for me, reigns supreme. The detail given by the sculptor to the figure of Poe--from the dreambidden expression of his handsome features, the gesture and placement of his literary and lyrically composing hands, the elegant attire with deep folds in the draped cloak thrown across the back of the chair, the crossed and booted feet symbolizing humility and grace, and the heavenly muses enwrapping his immortal throne--are the hallmarks of a true artisan. This almost life size sculpture is among three that most represent Poe, the man. The other two are yet to be realized in the sense of completed bronzes, as this one is, yet they, too, compliment the great poet. They were intentioned to be lifesize, and are depicted standing. One is by the late Richard Masloski who was in the process of bringing his bronze into fruition before his untimely passing. It features Poe standing, perhaps on Mt. Tom, overlooking the Hudson River, hands deeply in the pockets of his West Point greatcoat. The other is by Habib Saher, and has an elegant Poe leaning against a Gothic chair in a casual pose. How fortunate are we that this young woman has noticed the condition of this beloved sculpture, and has determined how best to revitalize it. I hope that in the years since this initial rehabilitation she has continued to look after this treasure. Her skills and knowledge in this area of restorative work are much appreciated by the admirers of Edgar A. Poe, and the artistry of Sir Moses Ezekiel, sculptor extraordInaire.

I dont think you can compare the confederate flag to a swastika. Im sure many southwrnwrs are just porud of their southern heritage, abd not the racist parts. Its a shame, I'm from England and its the same with St George's flag which is the flag for England (not the UK), a white background with a red cross, the cross of st George, similar to the country of Georgia. But we rarely fly that flag in the UK and racist groups have hijacked the flag for thier own evil purposes so people make assumptions about that flag and its only ever really used at sporting or musical events or royal events. English culture is very distinct from British culture though, we share land and history but Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales can be very different culturally speaking, depending on where you're from.
